Competitions to promote technical excellence
Focused on successful Energy+ marketing strategies as well as technical R&D, the European Energy+ Awards Competition addresses competitors from all participants, manufacturers, retailers, buyers and supporters. Regarding the products, the European Energy+ Appliance Award distinguishes manufacturers bringing innovation on the market via their most energy efficient appliances in various categories of cold appliances. The European Energy+ Participant Award for the most creative promotion campaign, of Energy+ retailers, institutional buyers and supporters, distinguishes the most active partners around the theme of energy efficiency.
Simple tools to facilitate marketing
The highly recognised Energy+ general design and logo are used through various promotion tools available to manufacturers and buyers to support them self-advertising their participation.
Making the best of potential technical progress
Manufacturers have long proved they could engineer very performant products. From now on with Energy+, they go a step further and actually develop those appliances with realistic marketing objectives.
Whole ranges of super-efficient appliances meeting consumers expressed needs
The FINAL Spring 2003 Energy+ lists published at the Hometech fair in Cologne register almost 900 qualified Energy+ models produced by 21 manufacturing groups.
Who are the Energy+ participants?
A network of more than 100 European Organisations Back Energy+
Together, the Energy+ participants – who have signed a declaration and accepted to dedicate time to energy efficiency – retailers, institutional buyers and supporters represent 15,500 retail outlets and more than a million dwellings throughout Europe.
Active participation in the technical specification definition process
Demand side actors have been actively involved in the process by contributing with their experience and expressing their interest when developing the specifications both generals and for the Energy+ Awards competitions. They have signed a document (Energy+ declaration) declaring their intention to promote and/or purchase appliances according to the Energy+ specifications. The names of all these participating organisations are published on separate lists, for each update.
Three groups can be distinguished:
Retailers, (1/2 of the demand side participants), regrouping large international retail chains as well as individual retailers, mail order companies and electric utilities. Altogether this makes 15,500 retail outlets spread all over Europe. Retailers being in direct contact with consumers have a key role to play regarding energy performances: they select ranges, put forward appliances and advise consumers at the time of purchase.
Institutional buyers, (about 1/5 of the demand side participants), comprising housing companies, national housing associations, and holiday parks. These buyers together possess more than one million dwellings. These buyers may bulk buy very energy-efficient products to benefit from a considerable ROI (return on investment) in terms of energy and money savings.
Supporters, (about 1/3 of the demand side participants) including environmental organisations, energy agencies and other organisations who in their daily work will push for and inform about the Energy+ appliances.
